Pushing myself every day, I learned many valuable lessons not only for my profession, but for life as a whole. To take control of my life, I had to set out on a journey with nothing but determination and a willingness to learn.
At 19 years old, I was offered a manager position at a store where I had worked. As a young person, that meant the world to me. Just before starting, they delivered the worst news – they couldn't give me the position because they required managers to be 21.
It was a crushing blow. Despite my qualifications, a small stipulation kept me from advancing in my career. That experience was a turning point for me. I didn't want someone else to be in control of my success and future, like I had seen with my parents. Growing up, my parents worked multiple doubles every week. Everything we had was a result of their hard work, but it took a physical and mental toll. There were few opportunities to get ahead, it felt like an endless cycle.
I recognized this cycle early in life, and it became a goal of mine to create a new path for myself and others. Real estate became the means through which I could do that. At the beginning of my career in 2010, it was all about gaining the knowledge to help people, and with that came confidence. It felt good to see the results from my efforts, and I knew I was on the right track.
Then I worked to create a replicable process that removed the fears and unknowns for my clients. The next step was all about growth and creating a consistently wonderful experience for my clients. The feeling of helping people break the cycles they were in, just like I had done for myself, was my number one motivation through it all. After several years of perfecting my craft, I was on cloud nine, grateful for the direction my life had gone.
COVID brought a host of new challenges. More people wanted my help than I had time for, and I had to figure out how to manage it all. I was running on fumes, even though my business had never been better. Unfortunately, I felt empty. There was no time to reflect, I had to keep going to make sure my clients were taken care of.
I would come home exhausted with nothing left to give. Once the market began to slow down, I used that pause to catch my breath and figure out why I felt so unfulfilled. I asked myself: What does it mean to be the best? My business is thriving, but am I living up to my full potential?
First, I focused on finding the right balance to bring my best to work while still preserving enough energy and love to be a great husband and friend. With time, I recognized the void I felt was a result of not giving back in the ways I wanted to. I love teaching and sharing knowledge, so I began creating videos to provide thorough education for free. Giving back to my community became more important to me. I made sure to donate The Children’s Miracle Network every check. Now, I celebrate my clients’ success with Client Appreciation Events. I plugged myself in to community and church.
I believe the more you pay it forward, the more joyful you become for the life you have. Every morning I practice gratitude, listing out all that I’m thankful for, from the water and the sun to my wife, my house, and my dog. I believe that joy and gratefulness are the key to a fulfilling and blessed life. They act as the mortar that binds all experiences, good and bad, and build something solid from all life throws our way.
My job in real estate is to bring happiness to people's lives and serve as a positive, guiding force throughout the process. I strive to add an element of fun or joy to your life and the transaction. I understand that buying or selling can put people under a lot of stress, so my personal mission is to alleviate those stresses in any way I can. Doing the proper research and asking the right questions, I make sure there are no surprises and you know everything you need to know before making any decisions.
I believe that real estate is a tool that can break helpless cycles and help anyone achieve financial freedom. There are so many opportunities out there, but if you don’t know the pathway to get there, then it can be hard to recognize it. I educate people and help shed some light on the many real estate processes. At the end of the day, I want to know I have helped someone reach their goals, whatever they may be. Even after the transaction is over, I’ll continue to be your friend and REALTOR® for life.
Sincerely,
John Campos
